Conversation #3

This didn't happen to me. It happened to our Special Ed teacher, Devyna, who got married over the summer. She posted this on her blog and it's too funny not to share with all of you.

Student: "So Miss Smith, I hear you have a new last name!"

Mrs. Blackwelder: "Yes, I do. I got married and now my name is Mrs. Blackwelder."

Student: "My mom's friend got married this summer too, so when is YOUR baby coming?"

Now last year while I was out on maternity leave a student approached another 4th grade teacher and had this conversation:

K: Mrs. M what is Mrs. Harstad's baby's name?

Mrs. M: Courtney

K: Courtney......

Mrs. M: I can't remember the middle name.

K: No, no, no...what's the baby's last name?

A Little Funny For Your Day

**Names have been changed to protect the possibly innocent**

Conversation #1:

Me: Good Morning, Sammy. I'm so glad you made it. Are you excited about your first day here at Northridge?

Sammy: Ummm....yeah.

Teacher #2: Sammy, how old are you?

Sammy: Like nine.

Teacher #2: Like nine or you are nine?

Sammy: Nine. Hey, my packback is fully loaded

Me: Oh well, then I guess we should all take cover then shouldn't we?

Conversation #2: While playing a get to know you game where you sign your name next to something you have in commen with the other person.

Sally: Mrs. K can you sign anything on my paper?

Mrs. K: Sure. (She signs next to "Has brown eyes.")

Sally: Mrs. K, are you black? (Sally is black.)

Mrs. K: Sally, do I look black? (she's as white as white can be.)

Sally: Ohhh...you mix, you mix. (and says it with her million dollar smile.)

And this folks are the kinds of people that will one day be running the country. It sends a shiver up my spine.

Courtney is 6 Months Old!

She actually turned 6 months old last Sunday. But we were a bit busy looking for Holly, had an overnight visit from Grammie H and starting school to take and post any pictures.

Anywho...Courtney is officially 6 months old. She currently weights 17 lb 15 ozs (almost 18) and is 26 inches long. She is grabbing at everything she can reach and is in the beginning stages of the commando crawl.

Without further ado....our 6 month old Ladybug!

It's getting difficult to take a picuture with Ted E. Bear now. So this might be our last month to have him with her. She'd rather drool on him than smile for us. Meanwhile her mom and dad look like goons trying to coax a smile out of her! There is one thing we have noticed lately. Courtney has the longest tongue. We aren't sure what gene pool it came from...but it's like Gene Simmons is channeling through her! This picture really doesn't give you the full effect of just how long her tongue is, but it's the only one we could snap!

In other news, school has started. I have 24 in my classroom so it's pretty cramped in there this year. Last year I ended the year with 19 and that was plenty in the room dubbed "the closet" of Northridge. The kids have cute personalities and I can tell a few are seeing how far they can push me, but they'll soon find out I run a tight ship! But from looking at their state test scores from last year, I have some really intelligent kiddos so that will make for a GREAT year!

There Really Are Good People Out There

This past weekend we went down to Lake Texoma to spend time with friends. My mom offered to watch Holly, our dog, overnight. The next morning we get a call from her saying Holly got out of the backyard. She can't find her. And Holly doesn't have her tags on. So we start our search for her and come up with nothing. We were hoping somebody found Holly and was treating her well until we could post flyers.

Today Clay went around my mom's neighborhood and posted flyers. An hour later we get a call from a lady who found her. Holly was laying in the grass near the main road. We told the lady to call her name and to be careful since she's going blind. Clay jumped in the car to go over and get her. She was wet (it's been raining since last night), hungry and scared. We aren't sure what kind of adventure she had for a day and a half, but we're glad she's home. She's asleep on her big pillow with her piggy and I couldn't be happier that she's home.

So thank you kind stranger for finding her and calling us. You don't know how happy you made us!

Let's Get Caught Up

I know, I know....what happened to the blogging? The pictures? It's a little something we call..BUSY! Between doctor's appointments, taking care of Courtney, keeping up with the house and getting my classroom ready, I haven't had much time to blog. I'll just be honest...it's going to be few and far between as of tomorrow when I officially report back. Courtney will be with her Nana and cousin Kelsi during the day. They'll be going to Mother's Day Out 3 days a week and other two will just be at Nana's house.

In the meantime, let's get caught up on what we've been doing.

First, we celebrated Papa Don's birthday at my sister Brooke's new house at the end of July. The kids had a good time playing in and out of the bathtub!
Here's a picture with Aunt Brookie. Courtney got a little crankie since was time for her bath/bed routine.

In other news, last Saturday was our 5 year wedding anniversary. We celebrated by staying in downtown OKC at the newly renovated historic Skirvin Hotel. It was very posh and gorgeous! We went out to dinner and had THE best steaks ever. Sunday afternoon we visited the OKC Museum of Art to see the Roman art exhibit on loan from the Louvre. It was really neat to see all the ancient artifacts.

That's it from our house. Tomorrow it's back to the daily grind. Wish us luck on getting us and a baby out the door by 7 AM!
